Buy Now

The simplest of solutions, the "Buy Now" button, can be effective if you only have a few items to sell. Each button can be configured to send your customer to your PayPal account where they can use their credit cards to make a purchase.

Shopping Carts

For stores with more than about 5 items, something more sophisticated is needed. Basic Shopping carts can be effective for small businesses that don't have more than about 20 items. It still connects to a PayPal account, but the shopping cart allows your site visitors to browse the site and select more than one item before heading to the checkout. These solutions use JavaScript and cookies to hold shopping cart data until checkout. Credit Card acceptance is handled by PayPal or a similar Credit Card acceptance provider.

Advanced Stores

If you have more than 20 or so items to sell, you'll need a full fledged online store. Tulsa Web Results offers open source solutions from many providers. (See Sidebar). These solutions provide extensive user and sales tracking data, group email for online specials, and much more. They can also connect directly to a credit card merchant account.
